My name is Jamie Rae Saranghilo Lee, but just call me Jamie. I love all things food and food science fascinating; especially how it affects our bodies. As a creative person, I love to get my hands dirty and make new dishes or crafts (i.e. cosplay, props, etc.). But I also love to explore the world by traveling, trying out different restaurants, as well as the great outdoors with my dog, Evee.
I grew up in California and graduated from Diablo Valley College with my Associates in Restaurant Management and certificates in Culinary Arts, Baking & Pastry, and Japanese. I then transferred to San Jose State University and earned my Bachelor's degree in Hospitality, Tourism, and Event Management, with a minor in Nutrition and Food Science. In 2018, I took a step back from the hospitality industry to go back to school to become a Registered Dietician Nutritionist (RDN). I graduated from the post-bachelor Dietetics & Nutrition Science program at San Francisco State University (SFSU) in May 2020. And was lucky to be accepted into their Dietetic Internship Program. I discovered my love for making food at a very young age when I was peeling an orange and handed it to my Lola (grandmother in Tagalog) and she was so happy that I peeled off all the pith (spongey white part) for her. It was then that I realized that I want to make people happy with the food that I make. Then |
approximately two or three years into college one of my best friend's sister had gotten very ill from Lupus. Knowing that I worked with food a lot she asked if I knew what kinds of food she might be able to eat to make herself feel better. I didn't at the time, but researching the information for her was so satisfying and rewarding that I decided to further a career in nutrition. My hope is to eventually find a way to work in food science, research, and community nutrition
My goal is to break the stereotype that healthy food can't taste amazing, To give people the tools in order to build a healthier version of themselves. Being mindful about what we put into our bodies, as well as thinking outside the box as to what should go into a dish are just a few of the topics I hope the encourage as a future Dietitian.
